This product was so amazing. The detail on such a small piece of art was really nice, and even when it fell on the tile it did not break or crack!

Product Description:
Individually hand crafted from simple unfired clays, each mud man, signally or as a grouping is constructed as one piece. They are unglazed and sun dried. There is ample detail considering that each mud man is made quickly with limited tools. Most of the small features like hair, hands wrinkles in the clothing and tea cups or scrolls are made using only small bits of clay rolled between the artists thumb and index finger. Facial expressions are produced by carving out lines with the artist finger nail.
Each small statuary is a unique creation; no two are exactly alike, though they follow traditional forms and archetypes. Some mud men may be holding a fan, others playing a game of go or enjoying a cup of tea. They are most commonly used in China as additions to bonsai or other stone or floral arrangements. Mud men are incorporated to complete the Taoist trinity so predominately portrayed in Chinese landscape paintings. They are also meant to add the illusion of scale to an arrangement. A regular Jade plant can be made to look like a tiny ancient tree with the small mud man grouping seated beneath it.
