Review of Shogun Juniper Bonsai

I ordered this Bonzai Tree in December. By early March it was brown. I followed all the directions precisely (water every 2-3 days, sunlight, etc.). Needles turned brown after 2 months. After month 3, brushing my hand across the tree caused branches to snap off. Very disappointing.

Product Description:
Enjoy the ancient Japanese tradition of Bonsai cultivation with our Shogun Juniper Bonsai. The term 'bonsai' literally translated from Japanese means tray planting or tree in pot. The term refers specifically to the training and artistic vision applied to the tree; ultimately this will give the illusion of an aged miniature tree in nature. It is more than just a little tree, it is an attempt to represent nature itself in a small pot. Nurturing such a micro-environment over many years can be a wellspring of meditative pleasure. Harmoniously balanced with an ancient piece of granite in a stylish, 7" cobalt blue ceramic pot. This small tree will do best if it can be placed outdoors, at least during the growing season. Like other conventional bonsai, it needs sun, wind, and rain to approximate the life of a "real" tree.

Review of Hardy Japanese Orange Plant-Poncirus-Outdoors or Bonsai

Although the pictures show a beautiful mature bonsai as well as some close ups of the foliage, it is important to know that these are small, pre-bonsai with narrow trunks. They will need to be pruned, trained, and given years to grow as would any plant that you wish to grow as bonsai. The plant I received had a nice woody stem.It was only about 10" high and had 6 branches off of it.What I love is the green thorns and light green leaves. It really is beautiful (I'm a thorn lover).I have kept it growning nicely in my bright west facing window through the winter (I brought it in from outside in October- before the leaves began to turn- and they have stayed green all year round. As a semi-tropical I think it would be ok outside all year in a protected area, but I like looking at in through the winter. It's about 18" high now and maturing nicely. No idea when it might flower.

Review of Brussel's Bonsai - Azalea Bonsai

We bought this for my mother-in-law who lives 9 hrs away from us and had it sent directly to her. Bad idea to trust AMAZON. She seemed as though she was happy about it but about two weeks later I asked her how she liked the flowers and she had no idea what i was talking about. Apparently, there were no flowers on this bush and she said that there is no way that it is going to have flowers this year if ever, if we were even sent the right thing i do not know cause they did not put any card or tag stating if the thing was even what it was suppose to be. Amazon did refund the money but that still doesnt make up for the horrible fact that she got a leaf tree for mothers day :( Its terrible that AMAZON doesnt even know what they are selling. DONT BUY THIS HERE UNLESS YOU WANT A LEAF TREE FOR AT LEAST THE NEXT COUPLE OF YEARS.

Review of Brussel's Trident Maple Forest 9 Outdoor Bonsai Tree

First off, my true gut feeling on the rating is a three.I am giving it a four because the I think the company is really good, the product was shipped fast and was packed really well.I am not super happy with the Trident Maple Forest but I am not totally disappointed either.I really didn't know what to expect since this item had not been reviewed before, I couldn't find too many photos, and I have never ordered anything that is alive on the internet.

My main disappointment is probably due to my own ignorance with bonsais.I have had a few various bonsais before and have sadly killed them all.I had seen the Trident Forest in a brochure before and really wanted it awhile ago.The idea of a "mini forest" sounded really neat.I also love maple trees so it really seemed perfect. When I received my bonsai today I was a little disappointed when I saw the trees.Basically they look like someone cut tree limbs off a maple tree and put them into a pot. Now, that may be how bonsai trees are made and I just don't know.I thought that maybe these were mini trees that were grown from a seed and pruned and trained to be small. But, as I said, I don't know much about bonsais.I am also disappointed in that I read when making a forest one should really try not to put the trees in any order or try to make them symmetrical. My forest is almost arranged in a perfect oval shape. Also, the largest "tree" is very loose and feels like it may pop out of the soil any moment. So, some of my trees look like a stick off a tree with maybe 10 small leaves on them and the top of the "tree" pruned diagonally.

Now, am I planning on returning the product? No, probably not unless it starts looking sick in the next two weeks or one of the trees falls out of the pot.I think it is a cute bonsai and am hoping I can take really good care of it and get it to grow some more leaves and fill out.To be honest, if I had seen this in a store for 100 dollars I would not have ever considered buying it.

So I am giving it a four because it was shipped fast and packed really well.It only lost about 10 leaves which I think is pretty good. Some of the leaves are wilted but I am assuming it is because of them being in the dark box for a few days.I also don't want to rate the tree too low because I really didn't know what to expect so I want to be fair to the product and company.I also love the leaves that is does have.

I took photos of it packed, me unpacking it, and the tree by itself.I am hoping to post these photos on amazon.I hope this helps you decide if you want one.Like I said, it is small and cute but definitely not like the photo posted on amazon. It is not thick with leaves or stems but this may be due to the season.Oh, and my tallest tree is 13 inches from the soil to the top of the stick.

Review of Hakuro Nishi Japanese Dappled Willow-Bonsai or Outdoors

It came as sort of a stubby little thing, but still healthy, green and variegated, so it shows great promise.Hirts has been a reliable source for quality, hard-to-find plants.

My one issue is with their packaging.I try to buy from local nurseries whenever possible, and turn to online buying only when I can't find what I need locally.I understand the environmental impacts of online buying and transport via fossil fuels.I try not to do it if I don't have to. To that end, I wish Hirts would switch to a biodegradable packaging medium in lieu of the Styrofoam packaging peanuts. The Styro has to go into the garbage, where I know it'll just sit forever in a landfill somewhere. There are so many better options that would get the plants here safely, and could then go into my worm bin to be digested into compost to keep the plants healthy and thriving.Shredded newspaper would be a cheap alternative.
An otherwise great company to work with, but I can't give the full five stars until they make the switch to something more responsible.
